Before CRIA
I have dreadlocks, and one thing you want is for your hair to always stay somewhat moisturized, I have more hair than the average person, like five heads of hair! I think it's a combination of my African and Indian ancestry. We all have a ton of hair that can be difficult to maintain just like our scalp—can get really dry, flaky in any season. This is usually the number one challenge for us, so we always need a product that is highly absorptive, prevents and removes flakiness of scalp, softens dreadlocks. Our traditional go-to solutions have been oils—coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil. I stay away from coconut oil during winters because it coagulates and often that will create more flakiness than it resolves. In the summer. It's a little easy, but then it drips over forehead, clogging pores, leading to breakouts. And then there are products that add so much gunk to hair that you have trouble even washing it out!
Rituals
I moisturize my scalp, braids, put my bonnet on. I do the same for my daughters at least 3 times per week. This is necessary to ensure our hair is growing healthy and strong and our scalp is not flaking. If it gets dry, it can be bad, like really bad. I think that is why a lot of women with thick coarse hair, get relaxers. But then it needs even more moisture on a regular basis because of all the chemicals. Once your hair starts growing out, now you have two different textures that are hard to maintain. We love the protective styles instead. It means keeping our hair and scalp constantly moisturized, preventing that which may cause itchiness or dryness because once we head down that path, hair health is gone.
Why CRIA
Cria was definitely very different. I remember applying it overnight and the next morning, I was like, “oh my god, my braids are softer!” And no residue on my scalp! Your product is a great one stop shop for our hair and we only added a little bit each night, and it made a huge difference. It’s ideal prevention—from dryness, itchiness, flakiness of scalp. We need to keep ahead of such issues because it can cause serious hair and scalp issues if left untreated. The best part (about Cria) is the absorption—how quickly and instantly the product is absorbed into the scalp and the braids. There is no dripping, no residue to clean post application or inside the bonnet in the morning.
Hobbies
My job as a VR creator is very fulfilling but crazy. I do not get to meditate as much as I used to, and I need to work on that. I love a good smelling candle so when the kids are in bed, I light one, just breathe and talk to my highest self, thank the Divine Mother for all that she's done for me and my family. Also, scalp care is self-care. It is like meditating, calms the head and the mind-body. My rituals ground me.
